KIEK
In Dutch, to ‘have a look’ or ‘take a look’ is written as ‘Eventjes kijken’ or ‘efkes kieke.’ Why are we telling you this? Funnily enough, it’s very similar to the name of the famous Dutch photographer, Israël Kiek. The Groninger came to Leiden at the age of 44 and made photography his main profession. Kiek took many portrait photos but became especially known for his photos of groups of students. The students always posed spontaneously, and Kiek wasn’t such a fan of these photos himself. That's why taking a picture should be fast, like a snapshot (or ‘kiekje’, as they say in Dutch.)
